Launching initially as a duo of William Hayden and Keith York in Santa Barbara while attending UC Santa Barbara, electronic/industrial outfit apolitiq performed throughout Southern California. Releasing cassettes initially, the band started with William recording music and Keith orchestrating live performances. As the band matured, covers and original compositions were released on compilations and the band self-released the ‘Head Smashed In’ 12”. While performances engaged erratic lighting, paintspray, assaults on audience members, blood (both real and synthetic), knives out, hammers striking through television sets and sparks flying from rusty oil drums – shows rarely ended without injuries. Intersecting with Long Beach and San Pedro, the organization would also include Rob Shuss, Meyeke Orgillon, John Hodge, and Jeff Browning. Years of apparent hiatus ended when the collective, with Hayden at the hub, emerged anew.
